Dan moved from Livingston, Montana to Southwest Virginia in 2021, drawn by the region's climate, natural environment, and fishing opportunities. He has a degree in Watershed Science from Minnesota Campus North, and he previously worked with the U.S. Geological Survey in Wyoming, studying rivers and undertaking special assignments in Yellowstone National Park and remote studies of Antarctica.
More recently, Dan has pursued entrepreneurship, founding and running several award-winning small businesses, including a camping supply store, pizzeria and bakery, ice cream shop, book publishing company focused on outdoor adventure themes, and a fly fishing guide service.
He is now excited to contribute to United Way's mission, particularly in building a program to assist with disaster recovery efforts in the SWVA region. Dan resides in Washington County with his wife, daughter, dogs, cats, chickens, and a gecko.
