Commonwealth of Virginia Campaign (CVC) Participation Through United Way of Southwest Virginia

Overview:
Non-profit organizations serving the Southwest Virginia region are invited to apply for participation in the Commonwealth of Virginia Campaign (CVC) through United Way of Southwest Virginia. This opportunity provides eligible organizations with increased visibility and potential donor support through the Commonwealth’s statewide charitable giving platform.

“Established in 1997, the Commonwealth of Virginia Campaign (CVC) is the officially sanctioned, non-profit fundraising initiative for more than 120,000 Commonwealth employees, enabling them to securely and conveniently contribute to their favorite charitable organizations year-round.”

United Way of Southwest Virginia does not oversee or influence approval of participation or funding decisions made by the Commonwealth of Virginia Campaign (CVC) or its participants.

 


Application Process:

Interested non-profit organizations must complete the following steps:

  • Create an account and submit an application through United Way of Southwest Virginia at www.unitedwayswva.org/apply, or by selecting the CVC tab on our website at www.unitedwayswva.org.
  • Complete all fields in the application.
  • Upload all required documents in of the application, including:
    • A signed Counterterrorism Compliance Agreement (provided in the application)
    • Your most recent IRS Form 990 (official, signed copy from the last two years)
    • IRS 501(c)(3) Determination Letter
    • A Governing Board Letter of Recommendation – with contact information of Board member writing letter included (template provided in the application)

Incomplete applications or those missing required documentation will be disqualified.
 


Eligibility Criteria:

Organizations applying through United Way of Southwest Virginia must:

  • Hold current IRS 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status
     
  • Provide services within the United Way of Southwest Virginia footprint, which includes the counties of Bland, Buchanan, Carroll, Dickenson, Floyd, Giles, Grayson, Lee, Montgomery, Pulaski, Russell, Scott, Smyth, Tazewell, Washington, Wise, and Wythe; and the cities of Bristol, Galax, Norton, and Radford
     
  • Be in good financial standing.
     
  • Fully complete the application and submit all required documentation within the designated timeframe.

 


Key Dates:

  • Application Opens: April 1, 2025, at 8:00 AM
     
  • Application Due to United Way: May 15, 2025, at 5:00 PM

Late submissions will not be accepted.

All applicants are required to have or create an account to complete and submit your application.  Keep your user name and password handy so that you can "save a draft" and return to complete your submission.  Also this user name and password will continue to be used for agency reporting and future applications.

  • LOGIN HERE (If you already have a user name and password)
  • CREATE AN ACCOUNT (New users only - Recommend using your Agency Name as your User Name - watch for an email to set your password, check spam)
  • RESET YOUR PASSWORD (if your email has been used previously, you can reset your password)
  • LOGOUT (Be sure to log out once you have saved your draft or submitted your application)

Incomplete applications will not be accepted.  Do not leave any blanks; enter N/A if not applicable.

Be sure to click "SAVE DRAFT" frequently, you will be able to return and work on the application as time permits. Be sure to click "SUBMIT" when completed, you will not be able to access completed submission, but you will be sent a copy of your submission.
