Before joining the United Way of Southwest Virginia Team, Julie was a small business owner. While operating The Beef Jerky Outlet in Bristol, she was responsible for all aspects of the company, from hiring, training, ordering, and invoicing to payroll. Small business ownership also blessed her with the opportunity to meet and work with other business owners in the area.
She also worked with Great American Opportunities, where she helped students and student-athletes fundraiser to meet their goals. Working with students and encouraging them to reach higher was an amazing experience.
Julie was born and raised in Bristol, VA, and attended VA Highlands Community College and Northeast State as a student of Business. In 2006 she married her high school sweetheart, Jimmy, who played professional baseball. Though they have lived across the country, they chose to return to Southwest Virginia. There is nowhere else they would choose to call home; this region is unique and special in so many ways. Julie and Jimmy are the proud parents of three boys, Porter, Palmer, and Patton, and a Golden-doodle named Moose.
